The solution is not twinning the highway, nor is it increasing law inforcement. The solution is All vehicles in canada should be Governed to 100 KM/HR

Governed at 100km/hr…the Hwy should be twinned and divided and the speed limit should be 110/h just like the QE2…Just like all other twinned divided hwys…People should not have to risk their lives because they want to go 100km/h because a truck is going 80km/h in front of them. They pull out and try to pass them at 140km/h – 150km/h so they can get out quick and back in again…some make it a lot don’t…People need to stop and think before they act. If the convoy is going 100km/h just go with the flow…if the convoy is going 80km/hr….wait your turn…don’t pass people in the convoy trying to pass the truck…just wait your turn! Twinning and dividing is the only option really and it needs to get done NOW. maybe the loss of all the lives including a pastor and his family…plus the others in the other car…maybe now they can realize that we need this done!

At whose expense? And what if you need that extra 10kms of speed to complete the pass safely? Assuming the person is a responsible driver trying to pass someone who lacks confidence to drive on a highway.
In my opinion that is a blanket fix that won’t help. Head on collisions are just as bad at 100km.

I am sorry Jodie but that would not be the solution because people going 100 KM/HR would still be passing people going less than that on blind corners, and when they are not suppose to.

Exactly, Erin! You and I think alike. Let’s hope that there are thousands more who share our opinion and are passionate enough to come out and join the movement to twin 63 on Saturday!!

Twinning HWY 63 is the number 1 thing that needs to be done here.
Who cares about the speed limit if it is 100 km/hr or 110 km/hr, if you hit someone doing just 50 km/hr you can do some severe damage!
I was severly injured on HWY 63 but it was within city limits and under different circumstances where the driver was impaired and it has had a drastic and very traumatic change in my every day life.
Anything and Everything that can be done to prevent collisions should be done at ALL COSTS!!!! I don’t care who has the expense to pay when it comes to saving lives. Would you rather have to dish out money to pay for peoples safety or let another group of 8 be killed before we all forget about this and have to protest against it all over again?
And YES, I said 8 because the woman in that vehicle was pregnant and that unborn child’s life counts too!
I am completely disgusted at the stubborness of people that STILL cannot learn how to drive safely and cautiously with all of the information and education that is availble to them.
For every action there is a consequence. But taking the life of an innocent person should never be the consequence.

You can slap people on the hand and preach about driving more safely all you want, there’s still going to be people that rather get home faster as opposed to slowing down and being cautious. It only takes one of these drivers and one wrong move to cause horrific tragedy. Twinning highway 63 is the only way to give any sort of seperation between the “dangerous” drivers and the “safe” drivers. We need this desperately. Everyone driving safely and waiting their turn would solve everything yes, but we need to be realistic and take action. We aren’t all saints – we’ve all sped or passed someone a little nervously, doesn’t mean were bad people (nor does it mean its justifiable) – we were all just lucky enough that there was no life changing outcomes. And everyone can learn from these tragic stories whether you hear it on the radio, are sitting in a hospital room wondering where your family is or fighting the demons of having made one stupid mistake. My heart goes out to everyone effected by loss on the 63 whether you were innosent or guilty, 63 needs to be twinned ASAP. And ill be there Saturday to show my support.

I cannot be at the protest today but will whole heartedly be there in spirit and continue to spread the word.

I have not heard of the oil companies expressing serious concerns with the part they play in the chaos of Hwy 63. Maybe if the ‘workers’ went on strike, even for one day, they would pay attention and step up to the plate. Money talks…

As for dangerous drivers having no regard for the safety of others on the highway, impound their vehicle! THAT will slow them down won’t it?

Highway 63 NEEDS to be twinned. The fact is humans will be humans and not all of us will play by the rules (follow the speed limits or pass when its safe), We may want that but common…… This isn’t the perfect world you envisioned….. You can add more passing lanes or govern vehicles at 100 and we may see a decrease in the accidents but sad to say there will still be bad head ons with big and small vehicles. We will loose more friends and families. A twinned highway is not a perfect one, but I think the severity and the amount of accidents will be far less. let me know what you think. I am just off shift and going to bed…..
