FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

(Fort McMurray, AB – May 4, 2012) – Commercial bus transportation company Diversified Transportation will be taking part in the “Twin 63 Now” movement by driving a convoy of motor coaches to the protest rally at MacDonald Island on Saturday, May 5.

Eight lives were lost in a tragic collision last Friday on Highway 63, including those of Courtney Penney, a valued Diversified employee, and her unborn child. Saturday’s convoy will have a total of eight coaches, one to represent each victim in Friday’s crash.

“This tragedy and others on the highway have hit close to home for every Diversified employee,” said Anne Kendall, a contract manager at Diversified. “Saturday’s convoy is our employee’s way of remembering the victims of the crash, and also demonstrating our commitment to safe driving.”

One hundred and fifty seats will be made available to Diversified employees. The coaches will be staged at the Casman Centre parking lot in Thickwood at 9:30 a.m. on May 5. At 10 a.m., the coaches will depart and travel in a convoy to the Twin 63 Now protest at MacDonald Island.

There are 250 seats available for Wood Buffalo residents who want to ride inside a coach in the convoy. Safe63 decals will be handed out to all passengers.

“We are proud to see a local company get involved in the Twin 63 Now movement,” said Ashley St. Croix, an organizer of the protest. “The eight-bus convoy will serve as a reminder for drivers to slow down and be safe on our roads.”

The convoy will leave MacDonald Island at 2:30 p.m. and return to the Casman Centre parking lot.

Twin 63 Now is a group of concerned citizens calling for progress on the twinning of Highway 63.

Diversified Transportation, owned by Pacific Western Group of Companies, has been operating in Fort McMurray since 1964 and it has been transporting oil sands employees to and from work since 1967. Its core values include safety, integrity, and accountability.

This last of many tragidies on hwy 63, will certainly put the twinning on the fast track. It is many many years overdue. This Hiway is diferent from others in that industry is the prominent user, and industry must play a prominent financial role in the initial twinning.
